Welcome to the Peter Daicos website
Welcome to the official Peter Daicos website fully sanctioned by the great man himself. When I suggested we do this I think Daics was somewhat amused that I felt that the public interest in him (his playing career and life now) is as strong as ever. I guess when you are not other people but you relate to and feel the same as other people you can wonder what all the fuss is about. When you meet Daics it soon becomes very evident he is a most unassuming champion who relates easily to most of us who grew up in and around Melbourne and for that matter any other Australian city or town. This I find most refreshing after having met many high profile people over the years who tended to disappoint with the attitude that their stand out talents seemed to somehow make them more worthy than the rest of us mere mortals.
There's something about Daics!
So apart from the human touch it was of course all set off by the electric and amazing player that dazzled us (and not just Collingwood supporters but true lovers of the game) over a 250 game playing career full of personal and team highlights. Sure there are great champions playing the game today and there always will be but "there's something about Daics" that no player has been able to put together in a truly similar package. Often in the stands I hear the expression he just did a "Daics" but it was a one off, or I hear the question, "Is he the new Daics?" but again its a flash of brilliance that takes us back to what Daics would do week in week out. I really believe we may never see a talent like his again.
Can we learn from Daics?
Having now spent some time with Daics and discussing those great on field performances it has become clear to me that the words "freak" and "magician" do not do what Daics did justice. While they make for great headlines the truth behind the talent was a lot of hard work, preparation and practice. Watch the vision of Daics on this website and you will see many of the so called "freak" plays that were in fact practiced over and over and then executed perfectly in the heat of battle. I believe if we can apply Daics approach to anything we want out of life then we too can enjoy success in our endeavours.

What's your memory of Daics?
Before signing off I'd like to invite you to recall your own memory of Daics, for me its not just the seemingly impossible goals from the boundary or the huge torpedo punts but rather that of a go and get it centreman twisting his way out of the middle who could deliver the ball equally well from either side of the body to a teammates chest time and time again. He kept me coming back to the footy week after week even in times when the Mighty Pies weren't so mighty.
Regardless if you were lucky as I was to see Daics play or even if he was before your time I also would like to encourage you to take a look his scrap book and if the opportunity presents itself don't miss the chance to meet or hear him speak.
All the best for now and Go Pies!
David Hung.
